Taylor + Greg’s August Wedding at The Manor House (Hail, Then a Rainbow)

Taylor and Greg were married on August 15 at The Manor House in Littleton, Colorado, in front of 157 people. About an hour before the first look, the sky opened up and dropped enough hail on the property that the lawn went completely white. In August.
They got a rainbow at the end of it.

Getting ready
It came down just before 2pm, hard enough that the grass, the drive and the steps were all under white within minutes. Taylor walked out into it in her slip with a glass of champagne and put her hand in the hail, laughing. It was still on the ground at quarter to five.
Taylor’s mom had her own wedding dress remade into pieces for the day. The getting ready robe, the bouquet holder, the purse and the pocket squares all came from it. She got ready in the small house on the property, and her mom did the necklace.
First looks
Taylor did three. The first was with her bridesmaids, the second was with her dad George, and the third was with Greg, where they read private vows to each other before anyone else had seen either of them.
The ceremony
They married outside at five with the mountains behind them and hail still sitting along the edge of the aisle. It spit rain again partway through and a few umbrellas went up.
And then a rainbow
Two minutes after they were pronounced, a full double rainbow came up over the valley. The whole cocktail hour emptied out onto the lawn to look at it.
The wedding party
Seven bridesmaids, seven groomsmen, two ring bearers and a flower girl, all of them out on wet grass in good shoes without a single complaint. We brought everyone out front and used the whole house.
Taylor and Greg
We took them back out before sunset. The light after a Colorado storm is unreasonably good, and the hail was still lying across the field behind them.
The details
The rings, the invitation suite, the dress, and the pieces made from her mom’s gown.
The reception
Dinner, a champagne tower, and a first dance to the acoustic version of Cinema by Gary Go, with the lifts and dips she asked for. They closed the night with a private last dance, just the two of them in an empty room, and left just after midnight.
To Taylor and Greg
Thank you for letting us stand out in the hail with you. Neither of you looked at that sky once and got upset about it, and you got a rainbow for it. Taylor’s advice to anyone planning right now, in her words: trust the process.
