Kara and Terry are the best! They are so in love, were so much fun and were just happy to get married. They were married on top of a mountain in the pouring rain and all they could do was laugh and smile. I asked them a couple questions about their big day and this is how they replied…
In your words, how did you two meet?
Terry and I first met at the Evans Scholar summer outing in Chicago 2007. I was a junior in the scholarship attending CU Boulder and Terry was going to be a new sophomore attending Colorado in the fall. Throughout the night we kept catching each other’s eyes. There is an ongoing joke between us about who was staring at who for the entirety of the night. Some might say it was love at first sight!
During that fall semester we became close friends. By winter break, we both knew there was more than just a friendship bubbling, but it wasn’t until Summer Break 2008 that it became apparent how much they meant to each other. After only 2 weeks into summer, Terry bought me a ticket to Chicago to visit him and we had their first official date to a Cubs Game at Wrigley Field.
How did the proposal go down?
On Jan. 12, 2017, Terry organized a special day. He told me he was having a rough week at work and wanted to get some fresh air on the beach, and take me to dinner. I was confused by his desire to go to the beach, since it had been raining all week. With a little bit of convincing, I agreed to go wonder Baker Beach in the rain with him. Terry had arranged for his closest friend to secretly set up a video camera to capture the moment. Terry asked, and I said yes. It was a magical moment that was proceeded by the sun emerging through the clouds and creating a glow on the Golden Gate Bridge.
What was your favorite moment of your wedding day?
Walking down the aisle with my dad, with my eyes only on my future husband.
Where there any funny moments to be remembered forever about your day? Where there any mishaps?
Oh yeah! … 1. The shuttle buses were late 2. One of the bridesmaids forgot her bouquet and my mother-in-law had to make one on the fly, thank goodness Chautauqua Park has white colored weeds/flowers. 3. We forgot the wine for our wine ceremony, so we used Champagne and Beer. Instead of mixing them, we poured each directly into each other’s glass. I will never forget Terry saying “Cheers to Coors Light babe!” LOL! 4. It rained on our wedding day, but turned out to be one of our favorite part of the day.
Do you have any advice for a future bride to be/or groom before their wedding?
Delegate as much as your can, don’t lose focus on the purpose of the day, and hire a great photographer. Those pictures last a lifetime.
