Tom + Kelsey’s Fall Wedding at The Country Club at Castle Pines in Castle Rock, Colorado

Tom and Kelsey got married at The Country Club at Castle Pines in Castle Rock on a September evening, and the whole day was built around one thing: the view. When Kelsey told us what she wanted, she said it in six words. Anywhere up on the cliffs.
We live ten minutes from here, so we have watched this light a lot. It still gets us.
The Ceremony at The Country Club at Castle Pines
Five o’clock on the lawn with 96 people and the whole Front Range laid out behind the arch. No first look, which meant Kelsey came down the aisle with her dad and Tom saw her for the first time right there. Two friends read, and their nephew Cade played an acoustic cover of Nobody But You while everyone sat and listened.
On the Cliffs
This is what makes a Castle Pines country club wedding different from anywhere else around Denver. The property sits on a bluff, and the ground just drops away west of the clubhouse. You walk a few minutes from the ceremony lawn and you are standing above the valley with nothing in front of you.
September light helps. The sun was low by the time we got out there, and we stayed until it went.
Family and the Wedding Party
Six bridesmaids, six groomsmen, and family photos after the ceremony rather than before, which is what they wanted.
Cocktail Hour and the Reception
Drinks out on the terrace, then dinner inside under the timber beams. Their table numbers were named after Colorado ski areas, and instead of a guest book they had people sign a snowboard. That tells you most of what you need to know about these two.
About the Venue
The Country Club at Castle Pines sits at 6400 Country Club Drive in Castle Rock, about thirty minutes south of Denver. It is a private club, so your access runs through a member, and that is worth sorting out early if you have your heart set on it.
- The ceremony lawn faces west toward the foothills, so a late afternoon ceremony puts the view behind you rather than the sun in your guests’ eyes.
- The cliff overlook is a short walk from the clubhouse and is the single best portrait spot on the property. Leave twenty minutes for it.
- Getting ready happens in the locker rooms, which are short on natural light. Ask about the deck off the men’s side, which looks straight out at the mountains.
- September and early October give you the best combination of warm evenings and long shadows here.
